On our 5th Friday of BV 2012, the kids were able
to be a bright light and example to the Buena Vista community by spending most
of their day at the Golden LivingCenter, playing games with the residents.
Once
we had eaten yet another delicious lunch prepared by the wonderful ladies of our
church, the kids moved to the sanctuary to begin their worship. There, Pastor
Bryon told us we would be talking about endurance for the day and how crucial
that is in our lives as Christians. We often have to endure many trials and
problems, but because we have God’s help and guidance, we can take comfort in
knowing His hand is in all that we do. It is not easy to have endurance, but
with faith, it is possible. For our overall theme that day, we looked to
Philippians 3:14, which states, “The goal I pursue is the prize of God’s upward
call in Christ Jesus.”
Following worship time, in crafts, the kids wrote Bible verses or statements about their faith onto white paper with white crayons. They then, using water colors, painted over the words so that the letters would come through. They created awesome artwork in a unique and fun way
Afterward, we left for the Golden LivingCenter in town, where the kids had a blast playing games with the residents and helping them move from station to station. We had races, in which some of the more active residents really entertained us with their enthusiasm to move from the starting line to the finish. They were moving with walkers but were still determined to do well! Other residents who were confined a bit more were still able to participate in our Olympic games by shooting basketballs into a hoop, bowling, and playing horse shoes. It was a blessing to see the happiness that both the residents and the children of the community felt during our few hours at Golden Living.
